Aviva Buren
“I always knew that I would support JFS Orlando with my Bat Mitzvah project. It’s one of our family’s favorite organizations here in Orlando!”
Aviva Buren’s recent mitzvah project was truly one of the most special Jewish Family Services of Greater Orlando has received. Combining her love of painting with her desire to help her local community in need, Aviva held a silent art auction featuring five unique paintings, all proceeds to be donated to JFS.
Aviva first started painting at the age of 8 years old. “I love painting because it makes me happy and entertains me when I’m bored,” she explains. “Also, it’s calming for me because I get to express my feelings and thoughts onto the canvas.” When it came time to choose a mitzvah project, she was encouraged to use her long-time artistic passion and create five large canvases (25″ x 36″ each) to auction off.
1- “Galaxy”
Exploring poured paint and texture with a far-out wonder.
2- “Torahs”
Inspired by the Torahs at Congregation Ohev Shalom.
3- “Jewish Symbols”
Our Jewish heritage has many beautiful symbols to celebrate holidays and customs. These symbols fill our lives with the beauty and dedication of generations past, present, and future.
4- “Lullaby at Dusk”
A calming and beautiful look at butterflies in the sky right after sunset.
5- “Hamsa”
Praying for Hashem’s peace and protection in all times of our lives.
The Bat Mitzvah took place on October 16, 2021 at Congregation Ohev Shalom and the party afterwards at the Orlando Museum of Art, the perfect setting for an art auction! Aviva’s family and friends bid and purchased her art pieces, donating directly to JFS. “Our family believes in giving locally to make the biggest impact,” says Aviva. “And JFS has some services that really help people get their lives back on track!”
For anyone else that might be interested in doing a similar mitzvah project, Aviva shares some advice from her experience: “It can be hard at times, but if you keep trying and preserving towards your goal—I guarantee that you will reach your goal. Just know that your project will help families in need and your work helps people who need it!”
Thank you so much, Aviva, for dedicating such a creative and wonderful mitzvah project to JFS Orlando. The time and dedication you put into it do not go unnoticed, and, on behalf of everyone at JFS, we are truly grateful for your generosity! Mazal Tov!
(We’re sure this won’t be the last you hear about Aviva and her amazing talent. Stay tuned!)
